HANK COCHRAN IS INDUCTED INTO THE COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME!
The Pen Fund Update (April 2016)
We’ve got some exciting news to share!! After the success of last year’s songwriting showcase and our first year of organizing events to raise funds for songwriters with pancreatic cancer, we learned a lot, we cried a lot, and we raised more money and awareness through the support of friends, family and members of the Nashville music community then we thought possible! We are beyond grateful to all who were involved, who volunteered their time, attended the shows and especially to talented songwriters like Jamey Johnson, Allison Kraus, Jamey Johnson, Scotty emerick, Buddy Cannon, Melonie Cannon and so many others who took time out of their schedules to help get The Pen Fund up and going! And going we are!
We also lost a lot, some of our dear friends in the songwriting community lost their battles with cancer this past year, and some are now just beginning battles. This is why after much consideration we realized that our desire to help songwriters goes beyond the scope of just Pancreatic Cancer. While Pancreatic Cancer remains one of our top priorities and losing Hank to this horrible disease remains the inspiration for the Pen Funds creation, we have decided to expand our focus to include assisting songwriters with ALL types of Cancer.
We have received our ein number and are currently in the process of applying for our 501(c)3 to become a full fledged Non Profit Organization. As a result, we will be parting ways with the Nikki Mitchell Foundation. While we remain committed to the fight against Pancreatic Cancer and want to thank Nikki Mitchell Foundation for guiding us through the first stages of our fight against cancer and our efforts to help songwriters battling it, we are very excited about the possibilities moving forward!
We had our first board meeting yesterday and want to officially welcome to The Pen Fund our newly elected Treasurer Shannon Zoble, our Secretary Billie Cannon. Susie Cochran remains our President with Booth Calder and Dodson serving on the board.
Thank you again for helping us get off to a wonderful and inspiring start. We hope you continue to join us in this next chapter as we expand our efforts to help songwriters in the fight against cancer. Our next fundraising event won’t be until August, but will have much to share in between now and then so stay tuned!
